This guide is general engineering context, not a substitute for application-specific calculation, drawing approval or a machine safety assessment.

Part identification

Provide the existing part number, drawing revision, machine function and photographs.

Gear geometry

Specify module/DP, starts, helix hand, tooth count, ratio, center distance, pressure angle/profile and face width.

Interfaces

Include bores, shafts, hubs, keyways, splines, threads, flanges, shoulders and mounting datums.

Duty data

State speed, continuous and peak torque, hours/day, starts/hour, reversing, shock and environment.

Materials and quality

Define materials, heat treatment, hardness, finish, inspection standard, reports and traceability.

Commercial data

Provide prototype quantity, annual demand, destination, packaging and required approval process.

Recommended review sequence

  1. Confirm the machine function and operating duty.
  2. Identify the tooth system and installed geometry.
  3. Check load, speed, sliding, temperature and service factor.
  4. Select materials, heat treatment, lubrication and inspection requirements.
  5. Review shafts, bearings, housing, guards and failure consequences.
  6. Issue and approve the final manufacturing drawing.

General context derived from connected worm gear catalogues and current official standards information. Product-specific values must be calculated for the actual design.
