Use the drawing datums for shaft angle, center distance and axial position. Do not center only by visual appearance.

Thrust support

Worm gearing generates axial thrust. Select bearings and shaft retention for both rotation directions if reversing.

Contact pattern

Verify contact at low load. Edge contact suggests alignment, center-distance or housing-deflection issues.

Backlash

Measure backlash under stated conditions and avoid zero-backlash assembly.

Startup

Confirm lubricant, guards, fasteners, free rotation, noise and temperature before applying full load.

Safety

Lock out power during installation and maintenance, and guard exposed rotating components.

Recommended review sequence

  1. Confirm the machine function and operating duty.
  2. Identify the tooth system and installed geometry.
  3. Check load, speed, sliding, temperature and service factor.
  4. Select materials, heat treatment, lubrication and inspection requirements.
  5. Review shafts, bearings, housing, guards and failure consequences.
  6. Issue and approve the final manufacturing drawing.
