Where worm gearing may fit
Worm gearing can provide compact right-angle reduction, controlled adjustment or high ratio in one stage. In roof vents, screens, irrigation controls and compact actuator systems, the actual suitability depends on the required torque, input speed, duty cycle, jamming or shock events, contamination, washdown, holding behavior and maintenance access.
Application data to collect
- Machine function and normal operating sequence
- Input motor or handwheel speed
- Continuous and peak output torque
- Starts per hour and reversing frequency
- Crop, feed, dust, water or chemical exposure
- Operating and storage temperature
- Lubrication method and maintenance access
- Required guards, brakes and safety controls
Common risks
Agricultural equipment may see sudden jams, seasonal corrosion, long storage, abrasive dust and inconsistent lubrication. The reducer or gear set should be checked for shock classification, thermal capacity, shaft and bearing loads, seal protection and off-season preservation. If the mechanism can move under gravity or stored energy, use a positive brake or lock instead of relying on assumed self-locking.
